My name is Chelsea Lake. I was born a horse-crazy girl. After several Christmases and Birthdays of me begging for a horse of my own, my parents realized it was not a phase that I would soon outgrow. I was taught to ride by my Uncle Mark on his roping horse "Tuffy" and was content to share him for several years. Finally, when I was 12, I got to pick out my very own horse. On a ranch in Elmer, Oklahoma, I had a lovely grey mare that had been chosen and set set aside for me. She was beautiful, no doubt, but after riding her for just a few minutes I realized she was not the horse I was looking for. With permission, I scanned the herd and much to this old cowboy's dismay, I chose the young palomino in the very back. "She's the one" I insisted, while he tried to convince me otherwise, "No, she's the one." I named her Pixie Jo, (PJ) and knew immediately she was my heart horse. I go to spend 22 years with PJ and she was my absolute best friend. My children grew up riding her around and those memories I will cherish for the rest of my life. PJ left this world on my 32nd birthday, while heartbreaking, I choose to see it as a blessing to know she will be remembered forever.

I found Blaze's Tribute shortly after April 2018 when I saw a story about a paint named "Arabella" who was in such poor shape she had to be lifted, time and time again with a tow truck and sling. She had been severely neglected to the point that she was unable to get back up once she was down. Her story tugged at my heart strings, and I followed the Blaze's website and Facebook page for almost a year before reaching out to Natalee to inquire about meeting the horses. All the while, my daughter, Lily had fallen in love with Arabella through the website and FB Saturday Showcases. She was just as determined as I was as a 12 yr old choosing my heart horse, and I knew I had to at least give her the opportunity to meet her. It was love at first site. We spent 2 hours meeting over 100 horses, Arabella stood perfectly content to let a little girl hug her neck. It was as if she knew that little girl was her person and we made the decision to adopt her shortly after that initial meeting. Since then, my husband, Jack and I have adopted 3 other horses from Blaze's. Our pasture is beautiful and is home to Arabella, Blitz, Hombre and Jetta Rose. I just LOVE seeing the Blaze's brand standing in our pasture.

Shortly after bringing our first 3 horses home we started volunteering at Blaze's. The Cross family accepted us with open arms and we've always felt like part of the family. In December 2019, we were approached about becoming board members and were honored to have been considered. We decided to pray on it, and it did not take long for the Lord to show us that Blaze's Tribute is exactly where we are supposed to be.
